This fundraiser is to support Sherman Mangal and his family as they try to come to terms with their new reality.
On Thursday, August 3 2022 at 3:29PM, I received a call from Sherman. It sounded like he was laughing. I piped up
“Hey, Sherman. How’s it going?”
While Sherman was the most upbeat and happy person on the team, this wasn’t that. I instantly got the chills. He was in hysterics.
What I thought was a laugh… was actually tears.
“Not good” he said.
I initially assumed he had crashed the company vehicle and was in shock. But then he said
“She’s dead”
“I was rushing home to be with Ruven to help take care of the kids since she has been taking care of them all day”
He interrupted himself to try and gain some composure. It didn’t work - He continued
“I found her on the living room floor with my little boy looking at his mom”
Sherman spoke to me with broken emotion as he explained to me that the paramedics had done everything they could to try and revive his beloved Ruven. It was at this moment that I realized that Sherman’s life would never be the same and the shock started to set into my own body and mind.
Sherman, a hard-working 1st generation Canadian living in Montreal, had moved his wife, Ruven and his little son to Ottawa to work with the team at PatchBoyz.
Shortly after moving, he proudly announced that Ruven was pregnant with their second child. Their new baby girl was born 3 weeks ago. As Sherman didn’t have a lot of family in Ottawa, Sherman took paternity leave to be with his pregnant wife and support her during what we thought was a challenging time.
It has come as a shock to all of us that Ruven, whom we all thought was in perfect health with no complications, would pass away, leaving Sherman alone to fend for his 6-year-old boy and 3-week-old daughter, while having to work to support them.
PatchBoyz is doing everything we can to help Sherman, but we need your help, if you can.
To you, this may be a sad story. To Sherman, this story is his entire life.
We are asking for support from Family, Friends and the Community.
If you could please Donate, even just a little, or even share this fundraiser, you would be sprinkling light on this terrible tragedy.
A wise woman once told me: We’re all just walking each other home. We may as well be nice to one another.
Sherman has lost that feeling of a home. If you can help us in trying to restore some sense of it, your efforts will never be forgotten.
Thank you for making a difference.
As I’m writing this, I just got word that Sherman got a call, letting him know that his god-mother in St Lucia has just passed away. I’m not sure how much one man can take.
… at some point, we all need a little HeLP.
