I just signed on to co-pilot a supply run up to Standing Rock. This week we will be delivering gear, including 3 yurts, to help winterize the camp.
I am aware that Standing Rock is a prayer camp led by indigenous people on indigenous land. I am continuing to educate myself about cultural protocols and will offer my services respectfully and with humility to the elders and indigenous camp leadership.
I’m also aware that there’s already a lot of great people and orgs collecting donations for the cause. Big thanks if you’ve supported some of their work! Still, I understand that sometimes a personal connection can resonate in a different way. Perhaps this is your call to action. Bottom line is that I encourage you to stay informed about what’s happening with the DAPL (the video below is a good starting point,) and to get involved in a way that makes sense to your head and your heart.
Any money I collect will be used to get the yurts up and functional. While the structures have been generously donated, there are still costs to be covered for tarps, tie-lines, transportation (renting a trailer) etc. Additional funds will be used to provide winter supplies that meet immediate needs. I will make those decisions on the ground, in real time, and in concert with camp leadership.
