Supporting maisha kids: Our journey continues!

Donation protected
Maisha rescues orphans from the streets and slums of Nairobi and provides them with a home, an education and the hope of a future. Our aim is to demonstrate unconditional love by caring for orphans who would otherwise have no notion of family or love. The maisha home is situated in Ruai Kenya (just outside Nairobi) where we cater for about 25 children/youth and employees. As several of our youths are now young adults coming to the end of their studies, we want to ensure that they become autonomous , settle into successful careers and become responsible and independent adults.
Over the past several years, the cost of living in Kenya has skyrocketed becoming extremely expensive, not only for food, but also healthcare, and school fees. At the same time we are at the peak of supporting maisha children financially in their academic paths.
To promote the future sustainability of maisha, we are seeking support in the following areas:

  • School fees
There is an increase up to 30% over last term's fees. This is becoming a challenge to pay all the children school fees, as many of the family members are now grown up attending training colleges or universities. The total cost of school fees per year is about 10,000CHF.

  • Agriculture
Over the last 1.5 years we have planted some vegetables, grains, and legumes to test what the land is good at producing. Based on our tests, we estimate 70% of the food for the maisha family could come from our own farm produce, if we have the right equipment. Below is a breakdown of our agricultural sustainability needs:

Solar Batteries: The estimated cost of the solar batteries is 7,500CHF. This will help us maximize energy from donated solar panels, so we can pump water from our well, which will be used for food production.

Water Tanks: The estimated cost of additional tanks is 6,000 CHF. We will use these to store pumped well water, so we can irrigate our farm land.

Cow: The estimated cost of a milk cow is 1,500 CHF. The milk will provide both nutrition for the maisha family and serve as an important income stream to help offset some of our monthly living expenses.

By supporting these costs, you can help the maisha children and family improve education, nutrition, and health, while contributing to the long-term sustainability of our social enterprise.
