Hello, my name is Avnish Kumar, and I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your compassion and support to help my childhood best friend, known to many as Vicky, return home to India after losing everything in Dubai.
Vicky and I grew up together — from school days to our early adult lives, he’s always been more like a brother than a friend. I’ve seen firsthand the honesty, loyalty, and quiet determination with which he’s lived his life.
Vicky moved to Dubai 27 years ago, full of hope and purpose. He worked tirelessly at Jebel Ali Port, sending money home month after month to support his parents and in-laws, never asking for anything in return. His life was simple and selfless — he worked, saved, and provided for those he loved.
After retiring, he took a leap of faith and started a small business in Dubai, investing every bit of his retirement savings, personal assets, and family insurance funds. His wife and young son lived with him, and they looked forward to a life of stability after years of sacrifice.
Then came the COVID-19 pandemic, and everything changed.
The financial shock was devastating. Despite doing everything he could, Vicky had to shut down his operations in December 2022. With no income and mounting pressure, he made the painful decision to send his wife and son back to India, while he stayed behind, trying to sort out the legal and financial chaos.
But things only worsened.
Vicky is now living under heartbreaking conditions:
- He sleeps in shared bedspaces, relying on the kindness of strangers
- Some days he eats just one meal — or none at all
- He faces multiple civil cases from:
- Landlords of both his former business and residence
- Personal creditors who loaned money in good faith
- He has been hit with significant fines and penalties, and the debts continue to mount
- As a result, he is under a travel ban and cannot return to India
- When his mother passed away, he couldn’t travel back for her f funeral
- When his young son suffered a serious accident, he was helpless to be there for him
Through it all, Vicky has never asked for help. He carries the weight of his losses alone, still hoping to find a way out with dignity.
But as his closest friend, I cannot stand by any longer. Vicky needs help — and he deserves a chance to come home.
We are raising this fundraiser to:
- Help Vicky settle his legal and financial obligations
- Lift the travel ban so he can return to India
- Provide for basic living essentials like food, shelter, and medical attention
- Most importantly, to reunite him with his family, who have been waiting for him for far too long
If you are in a position to contribute, even a little, please know that it would mean the world to him — and to those of us who care deeply about him. And if you cannot donate, we would be deeply grateful if you could share his story with others.
This campaign is being shared in India, the United States, and the UAE, and every act of kindness brings us one step closer to getting Vicky home.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for caring.
With sincere gratitude,
Avnish Kumar
(On behalf of my best friend, “Vicky”)
