Dear Friends, Family, and Kindhearted Strangers,
I’m writing with news that brings immense joy and hope: after 17 long years, my best friend Max is finally coming home.
Max and I have been like brothers for nearly 30 years. In 2009, he was incarcerated for a crime I know with all my heart he did not commit. Despite the unimaginable hardships he faced, Max never gave up. He never lost his faith, his integrity, or his compassion for others.
During his time behind bars, Max served as a pastor, earned good time every year, lived in an honor dorm, and pursued a degree in drafting and design. He stayed connected to me through every season of life. And I watched, year after year, as he held fast to hope and chose grace over bitterness.
He is, and will always be, one of the strongest and kindest people I know.
Now, with no close family left and no support system beyond me, Max is reentering a world that has changed dramatically since he last walked free. He’ll need everything—food, clothes, shelter, transportation, and most of all, the love and support of a caring community.
I made him a promise: that he wouldn’t face freedom alone. That when the gates opened, someone would be there. That we—all of us—would help him build a life worth living.
So I’m asking from the bottom of my heart: would you consider helping Max as he takes his first steps into freedom?
Your donations will go directly toward:
- Basic essentials (food, clothing, hygiene)
- Repairs and cleaning of his modest trailer home
- Job search support and tools
- Saving toward a reliable used car
Any amount helps. And if you’re not able to give, sharing this page means more than you know.
In the spirit of giving, I’m reminded of this beautiful verse:
"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
—Galatians 6:2
With your help, Max’s journey doesn’t have to begin in struggle—it can begin in grace, dignity, and hope.
From my heart to yours, thank you.
May you be richly blessed for your compassion.
With gratitude,
