On Saturday, January 24, 2026, before the storm that swept most states in the country, our neighbor's home became rapidly engulfed in flames, and thick, black smoke billowed from everywhere. Luckily, off-duty Police Chief Dan Hyman happened upon the scene. By grabbing a nearby ladder and shouting out, he saved a man who had been sleeping upstairs. Chief Hyman guided the man to safety even before the fire trucks arrived.
We are tremendously grateful to the courageous heroes that fought the fire and saved the lives of everyone inside! So many compassionate police officers and others supported them with emergency services!

You can be a hero too if you donate any amount towards helping this wonderful family secure housing after losing everything. The funds will go towards housing in Suffern, where their children go to school, and some necessities as they get back on their feet.
I've known the family since they moved in next door a few years ago, and I cannot rest until I know they are safely housed. I will never forget the many acts of kindness I witnessed from passersby and emergency personnel. You can add your own act of kindness by donating. The family has given me permission to tell their story here. Please help if you can.
