Hello,
My name is Monica, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my family—my husband Kenneth and our 7-year-old daughter. Over the past year, we were the victims of a devastating financial scam committed by a close family member.
Between July 2024 and March 2025, my husband’s cousin, along with individuals claiming to act on her behalf, repeatedly contacted us with urgent requests for money. These requests came through phone calls and text messages and were presented as emergencies related to court cases, bail fees, rent, food, and other personal needs.
We were told the money would be fully repaid—over and over again. We gave what we had, trusting family. We even dipped into our daughter’s savings, believing we were helping someone in serious trouble. Unfortunately, we later discovered these claims were entirely fabricated. Once we realized there was no intention to repay us, it was too late—the money was gone.
Now we are facing overwhelming financial hardship. We’ve depleted not only our household funds but also our daughter’s savings. We are currently exploring bankruptcy as a last resort.
This has been a heartbreaking and humiliating experience to endure, especially at the hands of someone we trusted. We are not the type of people to ask for help lightly, but right now we’re trying to do what’s necessary to keep our family afloat, stay housed, and begin to rebuild.
If you’re able to contribute, any amount helps. If you’re not in a position to give, sharing this page with others would mean the world to us.
Thank you for reading, and for standing with us in this incredibly difficult time.
With gratitude,
Monica, Kenneth, and Zarya
