I first met Harriet in 2016 when I was on a mission trip to Uganda, Africa. She was a jewelry artisan for a non-profit company whose mission is to lift women out of poverty via skills-based training and employment. We shared a moment of connected sisterhood as we held hands and sang Edelweiss together, a song from our favorite movie The Sound of Music.
Fast forward to 2025. I recently heard that Harriet's circumstances have taken a turn, now unable to work, and with a dependent adult daughter who suffers from a psychiatric condition...Harriet is no longer able to afford rent.
When I heard that the cost of building a home in Lugazi, Uganda is $1200 my heart said, we can do that. We can build a home for Harriet. A home of her very own. A home that is safe and provides peace and protection.
I hold space for single mothers, especially struggling single mothers, because I was one. Because I know what it feels like to cry over expenses, to worry about how to make it to the next paycheck, to pray over how we would survive.
So let's build a home for Harriet. Will you help me?
