Britt's Mission Trip to Haiti!

Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,

As many of you know, this April I will take a HUGE step outside of my comfort zone and travel with members of my church (Oak Bridge Community Church in Arnold, MO) to provide much needed medical care to the people of Chadirac, Haiti!  As both a proud nurse and a follower of Jesus, I am beyond excited to use my talents to benefit the people of this isolated community, especially those who may have never seen a medical professional in their whole lives.  Could you imagine not being able to visit a doctor for an ear infection or call a dentist for a toothache?  No?  Me neither.

We will be working in conjunction with The 410 Bridge (www.410bridge.org).  This nonprofit organization’s mission is to “enable the self-developing capabilities of the people they serve by mobilizing and unifying the body of Christ through holistic, redemptive and community-centered partnerships”, meaning its projects belong to the community, and are not dependent on Western short-term mission teams to be completed or maintained.  They become sustainable by the local leaders and people, and therefore empower the members of the community to become successful in other endeavors as well.

Chadirac is an isolated mountain community, located some 2 hours north of Port-au-Prince, and is home to approximately 4,000 people.  Like many communities in Haiti, the greatest need in this area was access to clean water.  In 2012, the community and The 410 Bridge launched a project that captured rainwater and allowed it to be stored in tanks.  This project provided water for consumption, as well as for the agricultural needs of the local farmers.  Also, with very few schools in the area, only 10% of the children in Chadirac were enrolled in school.  In 2014, a plan was launched to build a new, permanent structure for the community school.

Unfortunately, a willingness to serve is not the only requirement to participate in this mission opportunity.  The total cost of the trip is $1,900.00 per person, in addition to all of the medical supplies we will need to bring with us (Nothing will be provided!)  I recognize not everyone has the desire or ability to embark on a journey like this: Working from sunrise until after sunset in hot, humid weather, only to return home to accommodations that may or may not have hot water for a shower- Sounds like a dream vacation, right?!  But, offering your funding (and well wishes/prayers) would be a wonderful way to help the people of Chadirac without leaving the comforts of home.  Would you consider making a donation?  I look forward to sharing my experience with all of you when I return, and I thank you in advance for your support!
