Here is my long overdue update as to where I am in reguards to my mission of beggining the ocean cleanup.
The purpose of this journey.
To show the true severity of the situation we are living in and ignoring. Meaning how bad the ocean is actually poluted. And how negative it is impacting ocean life. This will eventually lead to, and already has, a degrated quality of existence for all life on the planet.
Our oceans have been overwhelmed with the purpose humans have decided to abuse her with. Our Oceans weren't meant to be a huge dumping ground for toxic waste, plastic and other garbage. It was meant to sustain all life on earth.
When salmon go up the rivers after feasting in the ocean. They bring their nutrients to other animals in the mountains. And Their eggs return to the ocean to reapeat the cycle. As it has been since their creation. Balance, life. Now we destroy our forests, and kill our oceans. Yet we hide from our connection and responsibility to them by placing greater importance on image, comfort, convenience and disposable objects. And most of what is created to sustain those objects are destroying the very environments that should be sustaining life. Millions of ocean fish have been washing up on pacific coast lines. Whales are washing up on shores, dead from having bellies full of plastic and garbage. The acidification of the ocean water itself... And yet most can not be bothered to hear or see these truths. They would rather say there isnt anything they can do. But it is the only thing they should do..
Please support my efforts to show, that there are people trying to do what they say cannot be done. Organizations like Sea Sepherd and Living Oceans. Actively protecting and cleaning our oceans. As well as many others. It isnt yet enough! And that even individuals like myself can make a diference and become part of the change. With the help of some friends. Every dollar pledged helps me get closer to making change happen. I have the locations of the problemed areas. The pickup of the garbage and plastic have been organized. Thank you to Living Oceans for supplying me wtih suitable locations to get to with the boat I have. And supplying me with helicopter pickup bags and co-ordinating their helicopters to pick up what I end up cleaning of the beaches. And a big thanks to all the support I have gotten thus far. Be it shares or donations. It is very much appreciated. And its all for a truly a worthy cause. Our Oceans. The pledges also help me , keep you all posted with updates. So you can folllow along my journey, and watch first hand through videos and pictures I share, and will share.
If you cant go yourself to see whats really going on and cleanup ocean shores to protect our environment. Then consider supporting my efforts by sharing my mission with your friends. Or by donating to the cause. It would be great to create a system where volunteers could get paid to clean the oceans. Maybe I could get people to physically help that way. But for now. Im here to show anyone can make a difference with the help of their friends. And some determination.
The sailboat is paid for in full, as well as the loan that I receieved to pay the boat off.
I bought a decent sized dingy, 33lb claw anchor, 170' of G4 marine anchor chain, a garmin GPS/depth sounder with transiver combo, a dingy anchor, new second hand prop, prop rod and stuffing box, boat compass, rope, fishing license, crab traps, fishing poles, extreem weather floatation suit, life jackets, a life jacket specially made for dogs for Taz, dry bag, some sailing books, rain suit, rented morage for the month, another cell phone with GPS/HD camera/Data service, big freshwater resevoir, water proof plastic barrels for storage. A lot of this still has to be installed. Im in the process of currently.
Things still on the to get list.
These are some of the more important things on the list. Paper charts, at least 2 thru hulls and valves, wood to repair the stairs leading into the cabin and the main hatch, epoxy resin to repair the stanchion mounts/fill holes/secure cleats/mount additional backets for storage and shade, rope, pulleys, to better set up the rigging on the boat, LED lighting for inside and outside the boat, deep cycle marine batteries, at least 2, a coupe solar panels would be nice, 2 Manta II electric motors 10 HP, they double as generators. I would install one as an inboard engine that could be used as a troll generator while under sail, and the second to be used as a wind generator, a small gasoline generator in case of emergencies, additional propane and gas tanks, a holding tank, cordless tools/drill/grinder/skill and or chop saw/router, tap and die set, bolts, brackets, fiber glass.
Things that would be very useful to have
A better nav screen and gps/charts unit and depth sounder setup. A second extreem weather survival suit, more batteries and solar panels, more cameras to get better documentation and pictures. A drone camera would be useful to show the overall impack on large damaged areas I will be travelling to, gathering plastic and debris. The better the footage and the quality of the footage, the more people will consider paying attention. Modern times..
Please share this cause and donate. Lets make our Oceans a better place in the present and for all future generations. It is after all, OUR responsibility. With a humble heart, thank you.
