An elderly man was collecting cans to recycle in the Bayview district of San Francisco when he was assaulted for his cans. This elderly man collected cans as a means to support his family as they are low-income. A video of the incident was uploaded and many in the community expressed their willingness to support this elderly man and his family. The Community Youth Center (CYC) has an established office in the Bayview and was able to locate the elderly man and his family and offer assistance to help them through this incident. Over the weekend our Executive Director, Sarah Wan, met with the family to ensure they are getting the support they need from the community. After discussions with the family and relaying the community's messages of support, the family has decided to graciously accept donations through CYC. The funds raised through this campaign will go to help the family financially with rent, utilities, and other bills. The funds will be held in a CYC account and will be distributed to the family periodically to help pay for their financial needs. The family has already seen this GoFundMe page.
Thank you to each and everyone of you who have reached out and provided assistance.
