Bayside Lawrence Cemetery Beautification Project

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Yann Kermarrec and I am from Troop 49 in Bayside, Queens, NY. I am raising money for my Eagle Scout project which is to help conserve and beautify the Lawrence Family Cemetery in Bayside, which is a historical site and has been neglected for the past couple of years.

A bit of history on the Lawrence Cemetery:
The Lawrence Cemetery, located in Bayside, Queens, is a family cemetery sited on part of the land deeded in 1645 to John Lawrence and William Lawrence by Dutch Colonial Governor Willem Keift. John Lawrence was New York City Mayor in the late 17th century. For many years the Lawrence family used the land as a picnic ground. Today, there are between forty and fifty graves, with burials beginning in 1832 and ending in 1939. Notable people are buried in the cemetery including the first elected mayor of New York City and a President of the Stock Exchange. The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission designated it as a landmark site in 1967. It is managed today by the Bayside Historical Society.

The project will contribute to the mission of the Bayside Historical Society and will allow the Society to protect the historic integrity of our communities and collections.
