Baylor Krew’s Crew
Baylor Krew is my nephew.
Here is his story: in late September, Baylor was diagnosed with 3 heart defects: Ventricular Inversion, Transposition of Great Arteries, and Ventricular Septal Defect. Since then, he has had several appointments with his cardiologists about the next steps to take to repair these defects. A team of surgeons and specialists (30+ doctors) then determined after multiple echocardiograms and MRI that surgery was necessary.
Yesterday (11/4) Baylor underwent his surgery, which was nearly 16 hours long. The surgeons made the decision to do the complete repair called the “double switch”, which was what we had all hoped for because it is the best long-term outcome for Baylor. He is currently stable on an ECMO machine that basically does the work of pumping his blood to and from his heart and lungs in order to give his heart the rest it needs. Other procedures may have to take place depending on a variety of factors in his heart’s reaction.
At just 7 months old, Baylor is such a fighter and inspiration already. Doctors are surprised at how well he’s grown in size despite what is going on with his heart, and I know his recovery he will continue to be the warrior he truly is.
I am organizing this in hopes that my sister Bree, and brother-in-law Dylan receive help as Baylor is expected to be in the hospital for several weeks and the medical bills are extremely high. Between the medical bills and hotel stays (they live a couple hours away from the hospital) I am hoping this can give them one less thing to worry about through this emotional and difficult time. Thank you everyone for the outpouring love, support, and prayers. My family and I are so thankful he has a such a huge army behind him. Thank you God for protecting our Baylor and continuing to work on his recovery.
