Bay Area Face Shield Supply
Bay Area Face Shield Supply (BAFSS) is a collection of volunteers, mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area, working to supply under-resourced medical frontliners and health workers with 3D-printed protective face shields. Since late March 2020 we've delivered over 2700 shields (and counting) to large emergency departments, dental and nursing facilities, and other health workers in the Bay Area and around the nation.
From the urgency of flattening the curve to the long process of resuming routine healthcare, BAFSS' work has been driven entirely by donated money, time — and the ongoing demand from providers in the field. We want to be put "out of business" when everyone has the PPE they need, but we aren't there yet! And we need your help to keep bridging the gap until the supply chain is whole again. We have raised and spent over $12000 so far. To fill our existing requests and help guard against resurgences, we are hoping to raise $2000 by the end of June 2020.
Your donation protects the people at the riskiest points of contact with the coronavirus, who in turn protect all of us. The money goes entirely to cover material and logistical costs: We source materials from online retail and wholesale outlets; ship shields to distant recipients in need; and drive hundreds of miles around the Bay Area to coordinate supply and delivery logistics.
As a basic estimate, a $50 donation pays for:
- at least 10 full shields' worth of various raw materials, OR
- a big chunk of a few of our bulk material orders, OR
- about 400 miles' worth of gas and tolls for deliveries around the Bay Area, OR
- shipping several large packages, OR
- simple supplies to expedite the assembly process.
