Dear friends and family,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to share my ongoing battle with Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) also known as Red Skin Syndrome (RSS), a condition triggered by strong topical steroids pharmaceuticals (starka kortisonkrämer) prescribed for skin conditions. (note, this is not eczema). The symptoms of TSW are debilitating, ranging from a burning and itching sensation to insomnia, muscle spasms, and depression. It can become so debilitating that many become unable to work and become reliant on family for care and support. It can end relationships and careers, and take away the lives and happiness of those with TSW. TSW has taken a toll on my life on and off for about 9 years but since spring of 2023 when I needed to get off the medication, it effectively put my life, including work and relationships, on hold from the pain. After extensive research, I have found hope in Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) therapy available in only three clinics worldwide. In the UK as well as Singapore but I have decided to travel to Bangkok, Thailand, for this treatment, as it offers the most cost-effective option.
Cold Atmospheric Plasma therapy is an emerging technology used in the medical field to treat wounds on the skin by stimulating growth factor production in the skin cells. It has been used to treat diabetics chronic wounds and even some forms of cancer. It has many promising applications, including treating topical steroid withdrawal. The recovery process throughout treatment can be very physically taxing on the body, but it can help TSW sufferers get their health and their life back. Healing TSW without any treatment takes up to 3-5 years, with some rare occasions up to 10 years, and this treatment can drastically reduce that time. To make this journey possible, I am seeking financial assistance of $3360/34282 SEK to help cover expenses beyond my own savings and capabilities such as the treatment, travel and accommodation during these 5-6 months. If you can contribute to my GoFundMe page, it would mean the world to me! Spending 6 months in Bangkok obv cost a lot more than 3k but I'm able to pay for most of it from savings and that is why I'm only seeking this aid to help pay for the treatment itself.
I travelled from my home in Sweden as early as september due to the condition being much worse in cold weather and stayed with my sister abroad for a couple of months and after that I moved to southeast asia while waiting for my first appointment in december. I'm counting every penny to make this work but I have realized that it won't be enough and that is why I need your help. Thankfully travel in Thailand is very cost-effective, so any donations will go a long way. The more I can raise, the more treatments I can receive and the better the outlook will be for recovering from TSW.
The clinic recommends that you stay for up to a year but I am planning on staying for 5-6 months and after that I will try to continue healing back home. Treatment costs $560 a month or ca 5700 SEK which adds upp to $3360/34282 SEK. (Be aware when donating, for the voluntary tip towards the fundraiser company is automatically set to as high as 15% so make sure to turn that percentage down when donating).
Breakdown of the expected expenses:
$1500 Travel costs (plane tickets mainly)
$560 per month for CAP treatment
$350-450 per month for accommodations
$200-300 per month for food and miscellaneous everyday expenses.
CAP-patients who are already living down there have many of them got through this with crowdfunding and this has helped give me the courage to be public regarding this horrible disease.
