Your donation counts! - support Violence Prevention and the development of real community policing in the San Francisco District 10 Community. Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community (WDBC) and Discovering Your True Self (DYTS) Mentoring Program are sponsors of the Holly Rock All-Stars team as well as the Packers team, who are part of a fun, exciting, and innovative program – the Batter’s Up! Guns Down Violence Prevention Program.

On August 16, 2022 – DYTS and WDBC Founder, Phelicia Jones, MCP, was out at Gilman Park with Batter’s Up! Guns Down Violence Prevention Program participants. You can see an interview by CBS here --
This program uses the platform of organized team sports, namely community softball teams, to further ideas of camaraderie, leadership, team / community focus, and other positive attributes. Funds are needed to grow this program which is already underway – with games already being scheduled and played this summer!
San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has come under federal scrutiny for disproportionate use of force, arrests, and traffic stops (racial profiling) via traffic stops for Black San Franciscans. A Black San Franciscan is 15 times as likely to experience police use of force as a white San Franciscan, 10 times as likely to be arrested, and over 5 times as likely to be stopped. One of the categories of recommendations for SFPD from the federal Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services (DOJ COPS) review was community policing. Community policing done well means police and community members interacting as neighbors, building respect and trust. The Batter’s Up! Guns Down Violence Prevention Program builds that trust. SFPD Chief Scott and SFPD are enthused to be a part of this community-led program.
Several alumni members of DYTS play for the Holly Rock All-Stars, who WDBC and DYTS sponsors, along with the Packers team. This developing mentoring program is for adults as well as transitional age youth and younger kids as well.

Discovering Your True Self (DYTS), developed by Phelicia Jones (MCP), works primarily with young men between the ages of 18-30. The goal of the program is to assist young men in developing new ways of thinking and behaving, in order to address the many challenges in their lives. The program has a proven track record of success.
DYTS program participants pledge to take a "stronger stand", as it relates to changing their lives. They also pledge to not set their standards low, and to set goals and achieve them. DYTS Mentoring Program breaks down self-hatred, and promotes self-love. It challenges the paradigm of money, sex, drugs, guns and gangsta rap. Participants who excel in DYTS are offered a weekly stipend, and the chance to participate in speaking engagements, at both local and statewide colleges and universities, middle and high schools, conferences, rehabilitation programs, and more.

Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community (WDBC) is the only grassroots volunteer group to focus specifically on policing injustices against Black San Franciscans since 2015.

Please share, contribute, and join us in improving the lives of Black San Franciscans today!
