Bateau Bay Community Fundraiser

The Bateau Bay Community Collective is a group of local residents campaigning against a $148M redevelopment which will quadruple the size of Nareen Gardens, an independent living and aged care facility at Bateau Bay, NSW.

The Developer (Uniting Church) are proposing to demolish the existing 62 single-storey buildings on the 3.7ha site at 19 Bias Ave, which has 114 independent living units and replace with six 3-4 storey unit blocks with semi-underground car parks.

There has been little to no community consultation and neighbouring/bordering residents are horrified at the proposal with the likelihood of noise, pollution, privacy, shadowing, standard of living, security, noise and flood lighting all becoming a problem. Our quiet Bateau Bay streets surrounding Bias/Lakin/Altona will also be affected.

Particularly concerning is the impact to the Bateau Bay environment and the removal of up to 133 trees which are home to much wildlife and the impact this will have on our community village feel.

Neighbouring Residents are working on a group submission via a town planner and have funded the majority of this bill privately but we need the East Bateau Bay community’s help to assist with the upcoming Regional Planning Panel fees.

Every dollar will help us with the fight against Uniting as we look to safeguard the future of East Bateau Bay.
