Basis Outreach Van

The Basis outreach van has been there for many street sex workers who want a chat, a hot chocolate, a pack or condoms or even a cry! However, it's almost 15 years old and needs replacing.  The outreach van is essential for street sex workers because many are unable to access the service otherwise. We are able to seek emergency housing support, harm reduction, sexual health, the police, support from the Basis workers or any other service we may need. For many like me, the van brings a sense of safety and sex workers work close to it, and wouldn't be without it. Sex workers know there is help and support when they need it, or if something goes wrong.  Outreach simply couldn't exist without the van. It's been a place where I've laughed my head off or cried for hours, but also swapped heat mitts, clothes and crappy jokes. I wouldn't have been able to seek homeless support or moved away from street sex work without their help. If the fundraiser doesn't reach the maximum, then the money will still be used towards the van - either the upkeep, the repairs or ongoing running costs such as petrol, hot chocolates, condoms and whatever else wemay need. Also, toilet facilities is something to look aim towards because there are no toilet arrangements on the van which are essential to have!  Thank you, Grace x
