Where is Tigray (Tig-rye)?  Tigray is a historical region in Northern Ethiopia. https://www.britannica.com/place/Tigray-historical-region-Ethiopia

Denver resident and daughter of Zalambessa, Tigray-Hirut Hagos alongside her close friend Elsa Hagos also a daughter of Adwa, Tigray will be headed to a Sudan refugee camp on 6.26.21 (delayed to 7.3.21 due to traveling docs.). These two passionate and dedicated women have been traveling together to various States since the waged war on the Tigray people has erupted on 11.4.2020 protesting and chanting for their beloved country-Tigray, Ethiopia and the people who has been facing greusome attacks for the past 7 months led by the Prime Minister (pm) of Ethiopia-Abiy Ahmed and his partner in crime Dictator of Eritrea-Isaias Afwerki. Through their dictatorship-they have created a genocide on the people of Tigray by initially ordering a military offensive on Tigray to disband the elected Tigray regional government claiming the TPLF (Tigray People Liberation Front-a political party in Ethiopia) attacked a military base.

**Elsa and Hirut's why: Not only are they connected through friendship and loyalty. They are connected because their ethnic backgrounds are both from the beautful country of Tigray.  Elsa and Hirut both have previous life experiences fleeing their homes in the city of Ethiopia and landing in refugee camps in Sudan and Kenya before entering the United States. They both acknowledge that their experiences were not to this current extreme of this current genocidal war in Tigray. The extremes being weaponized starvation and rapes of young women to elders by the Ethiopian and Eritrean forces. There is also a high number of refugees facing this terror alone (children to adults) with most of their loved ones being killed. With this impending trip, Hirut and Elsa want to connect with the people, identify what the refugees need and gather information for future assistance. Both women are dedicated to making sure the refugees of this genocidal war are not alone in their fight of survival.  "We want to support them, see them eye to eye and listen to them. I don't want them to ever feel like they are alone."
Hirut also stated, that this current war brought back memories of her own experiences in a refugee camp. She realized she has never dealt with the trauma. She was fortunate to enter a "safe zone" in the United States and moved forward with her life, but this current genocidal war has created a trigger to the unconsciously suppressed trauma....
Elsa and Hirut will be staying in Sudan for three weeks. Both women are paying for their own travels and stay. Elsa stated she is leaving her loved ones behind and she is taking time off work she doesn't even have. This is truly heartwork for both Elsa and Hirut.

How can you help: We need beds.
In the Sudan refugee camps due to extreme weather and heavy rain-beds where they are mostly placed on the ground have been destroyed due to the rain. The heavy rain has also caused the ground to open up and many dangerous reptiles/critters to come up to the surface. The refugees have now been terrified to sleep on the ground and it has been impossible with the floods. https://www.unhcr.org/en-us/news/stories/2021/5/609d0c7f4/extreme-weather-leaves-ethiopian-refugees-vulnerable-eastern-sudan.html
Hirut and Elsa want to provide these beds for everyone, but they want to start by providing it to the Elders and the Women who have delivered newborn babies in these refugee camps. They are both asking for as little as $30 to sponsor a bed for the refugees. Updates of your sposorship (through photos and receipts) will be provided after their trip has taken place so you can see the support you made possible.

**disconnection to electricity and water
**blocked access to personal bank accounts
**blockage of humanitarian assistance
**thousands of Tigrayans were killed by aerial bombs and artillery attacks
**over a million of Tigrayans have been internally displaced and over 70,000 have become refugees in Sudan
**Ethnic profiling
**Weaponized starvation (withholding food) now considered a man-made famine
**Weaponized sexual and gender-based violence in Tigray (there has been a high number of rape committed on Tigrayan girls and women by Ethiopian and Eritrean forces.
