Bash’s neuroblastoma battle and road to recovery

On Friday March 19th, Sebastian’s parents took him to the pediatrician for a routine 18 month wellness screening only to be rushed to the ER at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. What turned into a routine visit, quickly became to be one of the most challenging and heartbreaking days for the family. Before the wellness visit Sebastian had a bruise on his back. His mom (Melissa) who had been concerned about it due to it not going away brought it up to the pediatrician. As the check up continued, the pediatrician noticed that Sebastian’s belly was also distended and immediately instructed them to go the ER. Sebastian had an ultra sound performed that day and it showed a large mass/tumor in his belly.  The next day Sebastian received a biopsy and his parents received the worst news. He was diagnosed with a very aggressive stage 3/4 Neuroblastoma Cancer. 

Neuroblastoma is a very rare cancer, only about 800 kids get diagnosed with it a year. It can be a gene mutation passed on from parents or it can form in the nerve tissues of the adrenal glands, neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis. Symptoms and signs include a lump in the abdomen, neck, chest or bone pain. 

His battle will be long and hard, for now at the very least a month in the hospital. He underwent surgery for bone marrow aspirate and inserted a port for chemo, receives nutrition through a feeding tube and will undergo chemotherapy to help shrink the tumor to hopefully release pressure from his organs. 

We are asking for any donations to help
this family with the financial hardship
of hospital bills, another surgery to hopefully remove the tumor in the next few months, years of medication and routine follows up. Even with insurance, the cost will add up and any donation no matter how small would help them tremendously through these hard times.
