Barrowby Action Group: Protecting Our Village and Its Heartland

We are Barrowby Action Group (BAG) — a group of residents united by one goal: to protect our beautiful Lincolnshire village from unsustainable and inappropriate development.

At the very heart of our community lies two prime Grade 1 agricultural fields — land that has been farmed for generations, providing food, open space, and the green landscape that defines Barrowby’s rural character. This field isn’t just farmland — it’s part of our shared heritage, a vital wildlife corridor, and the green heart of our village.

Now, that land is under threat. A developer is pushing for a 225 large-scale housing scheme that would cover this precious field with concrete, bringing more traffic, noise, and strain on already stretched local services.

Within the parish, we already have three unfinished estates and another 750 homes either under construction or earmarked for approval. Barrowby simply cannot absorb more — not without losing the very qualities that make Barrowby so special.

We’re not opposed to change, but we believe any growth should be sustainable, community-led, and respectful of the countryside that surrounds us.

Barrowby Action Group is working to:

Protect our Grade 1 farmland from unnecessary and harmful development.

Preserve Barrowby’s rural identity and wildlife habitats.

Challenge inappropriate planning decisions and demand transparency from councils and developers.

Ensure villagers have a real voice in shaping our community’s future.

We are volunteers giving our time freely — but to be effective, we need resources. Initially the funds raised will go towards covering the cost of campaign materials - leaflets, banners, posters etc. but at a later stage we may need to seek expert planning and/or legal advice, and carry out environmental consultations or surveys. We will be transparent with the donations received and any leftover funds will be used to support other community projects.

Every donation helps us defend this irreplaceable piece of countryside — not just for us, but for future generations who deserve to know Barrowby as we do: a thriving, historic village surrounded by open fields and nature, not endless sprawl.
