Wildfire Relief Project
I'm Brittany Olson and I'm a journalist/dairy farmer from Dallas, Wis. The farming community in Barron County, Wisconsin is working on sending aid in the form of hay, fencing materials, and other farm supplies to our brothers and sisters in agriculture in southwestern Kansas after devastating wildfires ripped across the Great Plains and claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of cattle, along with several ranchers' lives as well.
This campaign is dedicated to raising funds for transportation (one truck costs $1,800) and purchasing fencing supplies such a smooth wire, two-point barbwire, posts, clips, insulators and other materials because one mile of fencing costs $10,000. My counterpart, Kurt Wohlk, is in charge of trucking and will be the one in charge of finances as well. Money raised is specifically going toward purchasing fencing materials and hauling charges.
Without any cattle to capitalize on, it will be very tough for these ranchers to rebuild and we know that if we were in their boots, they would be on our doorstep to help us out. We don't know these people and may never meet them, but we are doing our best to get them back on their feet.
