Balbriggan Chain of Survival through its COMMUNITY HEARTS project is fundraising for RESIDENTIAL defibrillators. For the month of June all contributions will go specially toward a defibrillator for BATH ROAD residential area.

Problem
The recommended time to react to a cardiac arrest with a defibrillator is instantly - for every second and minute there-after the rate of survival decreases exponentially. This means the lifesaving protocol of identifying the signs of a cardiac arrest, applying CPR and having an AED/defibrillator response is an immediate requirement.
- Problem 1. - More than 70% of cardiac arrests take place at home, yet AED / defibrillators are not strategically positioned outdoors in residential areas around Balbriggan to provide 24-7 public access should an immediate response be required.
- Problem 2. - There are no Community First Responders (CFRs) in Balbriggan in the event of cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke or choking incidents.
This campaign is to raise funds for Balbriggan's Chain of Survival Programme. Active projects in the programme:
- Balbriggan Community First Responders (CFRs) in partnership with esteemed charity CRITICAL.
- Balbriggan Residential Rapid Access Defibrillators. Install outdoor AEDs in residential areas 420 meters apart in Balbriggan.
Balbriggan Community Support Needed
Each AED and Outdoor Cabinet will cost €1,750 (€1250 upwards for recommended AED, €500 for outdoor cabinet). Installation, battery and pad maintenance will incur additional costs.
Balbriggan Population Density
Of all the towns with a population of 1,500 people or over, Balbriggan is the second most densely populated in Ireland with 5,481 people per km2 (Central Statistics Office).
Overall Goal
For Balbriggan to be the first town in Ireland with an AED / Defibrillator coverate of 95% for the town's population e.g. An AED/Defribrillator, publicly accessible 24-7, within 3-5 minutes or 420 meters apart in residential areas.
