Hi, my name is Ethan. I’ve been honoured to be named Young Australian of the Year (Townsville region) in both 2019 and 2025, and earlier this month, I was recognised as 1 of 12 recipients of the Senior High School Citizenship Award 2025 by the Order of Australia Association (Queensland Branch).
But awards aside – what really matters to me is helping others. Since I was 10 years old, I’ve dedicated every birthday to giving back to those in need. Last year, I focused on supporting people experiencing homelessness.
This year is extra special – as I turn 18 and graduating high school, I want to make this birthday project bigger than ever! That’s why I’ve created the “Bags for Stars” project.
The idea is simple but powerful:
- Provide 200 children aged 6–12 with backpacks filled with school supplies.
These bags will go to children from families experiencing hardship – whether financial struggles, single-parent households, domestic violence survivors, or carers working tirelessly to provide safe homes.
Every bag will mean:
✔️ Less stress for families,
✔️ Pride and confidence for kids, and
✔️ A stronger belief in the power of education.
But I can’t do this alone. I need your help.
How you can support:
• Donate any amount towards supplies like backpacks, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, scissors, glue sticks and exercise books; or
• Contribute vouchers so we can purchase what’s needed. Please reach out via email to me.
Your support isn’t just about school supplies – it’s about giving children hope, dignity, and the belief that their community truly cares.
I’d love for all contributions to be received by 30 October 2025, so we can prepare and distribute the bags before I graduate this year.
Together, we can create brighter futures for local kids – and help them shine like the stars they are!
Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness,
Ethan
