While we have all been living in these strange and unprecedented times, we at The Fair and Placemaking have been wondering how we can use this time wisely to help others in need. We were put in touch with an organisation called Badu Sports who have been mentoring young people within the East London community for eleven years. They have identified that what many of their members are most in need of is food and supplies to keep afloat during these months of national crisis. This sponsored 100k Run, Walk & Cycle will raise the money for these much-needed supplies - bringing us together as One Community.
Who are the funds going to?
The One Community initiative was born out of Badu Sports three months ago to combat the rise in poverty in the local community, it helps the most vulnerable and at-risk families identified by Badu Sport’s partner schools. Through this schools partnership they provide food to families within Hornsey, Hackney, Newham, Ilford, and Redbridge, with fruit, veg, non-perishable food, toiletries, and activity resources as well as a support phoneline.
What are we doing to raise money?
We have decided to do a sponsored Run, Walk, Cycle 100K collectively as a team. We begin on Monday 29th Jun and have given ourselves only 5 days to complete! Each team member will have 10k to complete their chosen activity or activities…we do enjoy mixing things up. We might even add crawling to the list LOL! Activities will GPS track using those fancy workout apps we all love, so you’ll be able to see how we’re getting along. Look out for pic’s on here or our Instagram.
How can you help?
We ask, if possible, that you donate as much as you can so we can reach our £5000 target so that we can help BADU carry on with the following things until the end of this crisis is in sight:
- Providing food to 120 families a week
- Providing a phoneline for people who need it
- Providing PPE for the band of volunteers who turn up each week
- Provide online mentoring group sessions for those who are isolated and missing the sports group Badu usually provide.

We are The Fair is an award-winning large scale event and festival production company based in East London. Delivering complex events and festivals through our expert teams specialising in Event Production, Licensing & Health, and Safety.
Then we have our award-winning sister company, We Are Placemaking. They are a specialised creative agency producing large scale events to animate public realm and urban spaces.

Badu Sports is a community support and engagement hub based in East London catering for the needs of those most exposed in the local area and beyond. Their mission is to engage with and connect the most marginalised of society. To help everyone that they can through sporting activities, mentoring, and continuous support.
