Last year I was able to secure a grant and begin a weekend backpack program for hungry kids at my school. I have not secured a grant for this coming school year, and want to keep the program going! Kids can't learn if basic needs aren't being met... 
It was heartbreaking when a fifth grader came to me asking if she could have food for her brother and herself. I can't imagine not being able to help any and all kids that ask or don't ask! It's about the children, helping them regardless of what barriers are in the way. All food is kid friendly- they are able to prepare it all with or without adults. It's as healthy as it can be while still being easily prepped and non refrigerated.  Anything you share will be helpful! unfortunately this is such a need that the Food Bank has reached capacity and our school wasn't chosen by them.
