Spencer and I met while in college at the University of North Texas.  We dated for several years, part of it long distance between Virginia and Texas.  The distance helped us realize that we had each found our “one,” and Spencer proposed to me on one of his trips out to visit.  After I finished graduate school, I moved back to Texas and we got married.  That was four years ago now!

We wanted to enjoy married life just the two of us for a while before adding children to the mix.  Last year, we began trying to start a family, but had no luck.  After many months of irregular cycles, I went to see the doctor about why my cycles were so funky.  Dozens of tests later, I got a diagnosis…I have PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and stage IV endometriosis.  I had two surgeries in two months to clean up the endometriosis, drain ovarian cysts, and remove a tube blocked with scar tissue.  The doctors have said that in vitro fertilization is our only option for having children.

This news was a hard pill to swallow as it instantly changed the future we had planned for ourselves. But we were determined to have children, so we began to look into IVF.  We made two discoveries early on in our research: the first was that IVF has a good success rates, and the second is that the cost is extensive.   It was a sobering thought to realize that while some people could be saving to buy diapers, clothes, strollers, and car seats, we would have to scrimp and save just to have the chance to have a child.  It was initially overwhelming when we looked at all the pieces in this process and how quickly the prices of those procedures added up.  We are both hard-working people but this is not something we can do on our own. We will try our best by saving what we can and taking out loans, but really, we need YOU!

The clinic we use offers a global prepayment discount for a mere $8500.  This includes everything but the medications, which are another $3500 or so.  My insurance does not cover anything when it comes to fertility treatments, so we have to pay all of this out-of-pocket.  Our fundraising goal is $8500; any little bit that you are willing to donate will be greatly appreciated.

Finances are just one part of this journey. There will be good days and bad days, stress free days and days full of anxiety. We ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers, support us, check on us, come by the house and see us.  Although the outcome is uncertain and the journey may be difficult, we are inviting our friends, family, and those who feel to support us to be part of our "Baby Wolf Project!"

Love,
Stacey
