Nathaniel and I met on the school bus in the 10th grade. We became friends but never dated, and went our separate ways after graduation. Fast forward 5 years, and we randomly ran back into each other, started dating, fell in love, and he became daddy to my 1 year old son. We got married in 2009 and 8 months later he deployed to Iraq, so of course we decided to wait on expanding our family. After a loooong year, he returned in February of 2010, and we decided to start trying for a baby of our own, never imagining that we would have trouble conceiving.
After several months of no luck, we started having tests done to see what the problem was, and were told it was a blockage that should be fixable. We underwent two different surgeries, but six months later, still no baby. Luckily, we still had Tricare at that time, and all our medical costs were covered. After this failure, our doctor sent us to Chapel Hill for a second opinion, where we were told that our only option was IVF, and were referred to a fertility clinic. This of course is NOT covered by insurance, and we didn't have the money for such a costly procedure, and so we let our dream of a baby slip away.
I can't explain the heartache of hoping for a miracle every month, and the disappointment that comes even though you know it isn't likely. Our close friends and family know our struggles, but we weren't sure that we wanted to make this public. After watching our friends have babies, our desire to have our own became very strong again. After 7 years, we have decided to try for this one last time. I am 32, which is still considered fairly young in the infertility world, but time is ticking away.
Asking for help doesn't come easy, but we don't want to waste any more time. We have been saving, but payment must be made in full before any treatment dates can be made. Our first small financial goal will be for sperm harvestation, total cost of $3695, not counting medication. Any funds we raise will go first towards this, and then to our IVF fund. I cannot tell you how much this means to us, and how you will be blessing our family by supporting our goal with your donation. Thank you and help us spread the word!
