On June 9th, 2020,  at 33 1/2 weeks pregnant, Taylor realized her unborn son was not moving around as much as normal. Doctors became alarmed after discovering the baby had an abnormally high heart rate and sent her to the emergency room immediately. Within one hour of her initial doctor's appointment, Taylor and her husband Silas Mercer welcomed their firstborn child, Owen Joshua Dean, into the world weighing in at 3 pounds 15 ounces. Shortly after Owen's birth, complications developed resulting in an emergency transfer to Brenner's Children's Hospital by ambulance. A team of doctors diagnosed baby Owen with a stage 3/4 Intraventricular hemorrhage of the brain. Owen has faced many battles in his short time here already, including, jaundice, seizures, breathing complications, and blood sugar fluctuations.  Doctors have prepared our family for the possibility Owen may have permanent brain damage from the severity of his brain bleed. There are numerous financial needs this family will be facing. Aside from the expenses arising from baby Owen's extended hospital stay, the doctors have stressed the importance of seeking various forms of therapy, such as early intervention programs in the months and years ahead. Unfortunately, there will be many expenses and therapies that are not covered by insurance. Silas has a very limited amount of time available to take off from work to be with his family. Additionally, Silas and Taylor face unique challenges with the limitations imposed due to COVID 19, the worst being no family members are able to visit or stay with them in the hospital.  I'm asking for donations of any amount, in order to help with medical bills, prescribed therapies, and the ability for Silas to remain with Taylor at the hospital instead of returning to work immediately.  I thank each and every one of you for your prayers and generosity.
