Hi Everyone,

My name is Nicole, and I’ve started this fundraiser to support my beautiful sister and her newborn daughter Niina, who is currently receiving specialist care in hospital in Japan.

Shortly after birth, Niina was diagnosed with a heart condition, unfortunately the hospital she was born in delayed actioning anything for almost a week and her conditions worsened. She was finally flown by helicopter to a hospital 6 hours away from home.

Where doctors discovered the three complex heart issues that require a series of surgeries and round-the-clock care:

- A Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) – a hole between the heart chambers

- Aortic Valve Stenosis – narrowing of a valve affecting blood flow

- A Hypoplastic Aortic Arch – a narrowing in the main artery

Over the next two months, Niina will undergo two major surgeries to stabilise her heart and support her growth, followed by a third surgery when she’s around one year old.

My sister is now staying in a hospital hotel so she can be close to Niina every day. Her partner, Conor, is back home caring for their farm and animals. The hospital is six hours away, and each visit costs around $300 for conor due to fuel and tolls—meaning it will be limited the amount of times he can visit.

This fundraiser is here to simply ease some of the financial weight so they can focus all their energy on being there for their baby girl.
