Hi, my name is Serena, baby Maverick’s mother. On Sunday 7/25/21, at 27.5 weeks pregnant, I woke up feeling a bit of cramping, so I went to the ER just to be on the safe side which was at about 11:30am. By 12:15 they determined I was in preterm labor and were ordering an IV to try to stop the labor and contractions, but my little man didn’t want to wait, but really I had a placental abruption due to a hematoma that had previously not been a concern, by the time the meds were ordered I was already in full labor. Baby boy came 12 weeks early at 2:18pm weighing in at 1Ib 14oz and 13.78inches long. Prayers, good vibes, and any help are much needed because he is very early and we were really not prepared… I literally haven’t even bought a single new outfit or anything and a baby shower barely had just started being planned. We have a long journey ahead of us and really do not know what to expect with potential expenses or when Maverick will get to come home. Currently, we are looking at a minimum of eight weeks of Maverick being in the NICU and who knows how many months of extra medical appointments afterwards. I am fortunate enough to have extended maternity leave to be at the hospital with Maverick most days, but Alan (Maverick's dad) does not have any kind of paternity leave plan and will be having to take a lot of unpaid time off during all of this. I really appreciate any help people are willing to give during this time of worry, doubt, and uncertainty. Hopefully, in a few months we will be having a meet the baby party after Maverick is home and healthy. Again, thank you in advance for any support you are able to give.
