Baby Lorelai’s Gastroschisis Journey
Donation protected
Hello all,
I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my daughter, Lorelai Luna Bellas. Lorelai was born on August 23rd at 9:18pm, weighing 7.3lbs of love.
Lorelai was born with a birth defect of the abdominal (belly) wall called Gastroschisis. Her case ended up being a bit more extreme than we were expecting. After being in labor for over 30 hours, I ended up having an emergency cesarean delivery. When she was born, her doctors discovered that not only were her large and small intestines on the outside of her abdomen, but her ovaries, stomach, liver, and other major organs were also on the outside of her abdominal wall.
Shortly after birth, Lorelai had her first surgery which involved placing her ovaries, stomach, and liver back inside her abdomen. Her intestines were then placed in a silo, so that gradually her organs can be hand squeezed through the silo into the opening and returned to the body. The silo method typically takes a week, and then Lorelai will have an additional surgery to close the abdominal wall, and place the remaining intestines into the belly.
Lorelai’s surgeries, NICU stay, and follow up care are as expensive as you can imagine. My husband and I live an hour away from the hospital Lorelai will be staying at for her care. She will be living in the NICU for a minimum of one month, and her stay can be extended from there depending on her progression. Gas adds up with how often we are traveling back and forth to see our daughter. If you are able to help us with these expenses, we appreciate it more than you could imagine. If you are unable to help we completely understand, and even just a share of her GoFundMe to your family and friends can make a huge difference to our situation as well as keeping our daughter in your prayers.
Thank you so much for your time, donations, and prayers.
Love,
Julia, Levi, and Lorelai Bellas ❤️
