My name is Ashley Carr, and I am hoping to raise money for my dear friends, Sarah and Aaron Smith and their sweet baby Hannah.
Hannah Ruth Smith was born Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 6:58am, weighing 4 lbs 14 oz. and 17 inches long. Sarah had an emergency c-section at 32 weeks due to the diagnosis of Pediatric Hydrops Fetalis and Plural Effusion. That means Hannah had fluids filling her chest cavity and preventing her lungs from forming properly. Once resuscitated, Hannah was removed to the NICU where she was given two chest tubes to drain the fluid, a ventilator to regulate her breathing, as well as medicine to increase and stabilize her blood pressure.
Her doctors performed a brain ultrasound on her Monday, March 20 to see what effects the Hydrops had on her brain and were able to determine Hannah had bleeding on both sides of her brain. While the bleeding had stopped, it was significant on one side. They are unsure the ramifications of the bleeding on her brain, nor will they for some time. After another brain scan on March 28 they discovered the blood is slowly dissipating. They were told that the bleed could result in something as small as a physical tick that most people would never notice, all the way to severe Cerebral Palsey where Hannah might not be very communicative or have control of her body. There will be an after care for her once she comes home that will likely take two years, with trained doctors monitoring her development and looking for markers for rehabilitation. Hannah has a long road ahead, but in this past week and a half she has already shown to be a strong little fighter and is making improvements daily.
I've known Sarah and Aaron for several years, and they have always strived to be good stewards of what the Lord has given them. They will have many medical bills, so I hope that you will prayerfully consider blessing them in any way possible.
