Baby Gia is home! Mom and Dad are in-home nurses!

Greetings everyone,

We are thrilled to announce that we are finally home after 10 long months in the NICU!

If you’re new to our GoFundMe, we started it when our daughter, Gia, was born with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) on January 26, 2022. Her CDH was repaired within the first 10 days of life, but led to a major bout with pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure of the lungs) that Gia is still battling to this day.

Her prolonged stay in the hospital caused us to essentially move to San Francisco which was extremely expensive, hence the GoFundMe.

But thanks to the great people at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (the hospital where Kaiser transferred Gia’s care), Gia’s relentless fighting spirit, and the support of her parents and loved ones, she finally got to come home for the first time just in time for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holidays!

However, things just got a little more complicated for Mom and Dad…

Gia is insured through Dad’s employer and by default has Kaiser. Unfortunately, Kaiser does not offer in-home nursing to patients with major disabilities. So Mom and Dad have had to take on the roles of in-home nurses themselves.

Dad works Mon-Fri and Mom works on the weekends. One of us has to be with Gia round the clock 24/7 at all times as she receives 12 different medications at 20 separate times throughout the day. She also eats through her G-tube and requires oxygen support 24/7.

This is unfortunately far too complicated of child care for us as parents to receive a break from grandma/grandpa on any occasion.

We also can’t stop working because we have bills to pay, but Mom especially is limited to just weekend hours which has significantly impacted her income.

We are trying to secure government support to supplement our bills, but it is a very long, drawn-out, and complicated process to even be considered eligible, let alone receive the benefits.

That is where your donations come into the picture and fortunately have the ability to help us through this hard time!

We appreciate anything you can give and won’t hesitate to leave you a thank you note.

Thanks in advance for your support!
