Hello. My name is Kelly, and I would like to share with you a bit about myself and this amazing journey that I have become a part of. I am 37 years old, a single mother of two amazing girls who are 12 and 10. I couldn’t even begin to imagine life without my daughters. Motherhood has changed and inspired me, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to raise my girls. I have often thought about the women and couples who are not as fortunate and blessed as I have been. For as long as I can remember, I have always thought about becoming a surrogate because I feel there are so many extraordinary people that would love to have children and for some reason or another are not able to. The true reason that I want to be a surrogate is to give at least one loving family the gift of a child. I loved being pregnant, and I feel that giving birth is a surreal and rewarding experience. I have tried to become a surrogate through an agency; however, New Jersey has very strict laws. So, now I would like to tell you this amazing story….
Almost everyone who knows me understands that I have always wanted to do this.
I work for a wonderful company and two of my amazing colleagues approached me and said they may have a patient who needs a surrogate. Can we give them your name? They barely finished their sentence before I said yes. I soon realized that I knew the woman they were speaking of. I received Andrea and Jason’s phone number and immediately reached out to them. Andrea and I spoke on the phone for quite some time and then set up dinner so the three of us could meet. We got to know each other and they are two of the finest people I have ever met. I learned that Andrea is a breast cancer survivor, which is the reason she cannot have her own child. I decided immediately that I wanted to help them to have a child. I am now in my 7th month of the pregnancy, and we have bonded in a way that I could not have anticipated. I truly believe that I was meant to do this for them. Since we live close to one another, Andrea and Jason are able to experience every step of the pregnancy right by my side and this makes it special.
Needless to say, there are many other avenues I or they may have chosen other than this one. But agencies are very expensive and complicated. They did start the adoption process, but we were connected before anything came of that.
Even though this a joyous event for us, unfortunately, none of the expenses are covered by their medical insurance. They are paying for this out of pocket I am not being compensated, nor did I ever want to be. I realize now through starting this journey how unfair it is to Andrea and Jason who are good, decent people. Like many of us, their lives have been touched by cancer, and through no fault of their own, have to carry the financial burden of having a child, which many of us take for granted. Therefore, I would like to begin a fundraising campaign to assist with the medical bills Andrea and Jason will incur throughout this process.
