Baby Blessings Children's Home

Donation protected

In 2017 I, along with five students from Ratoath College (Stephen Smith, Stephen Fowler, Meagan Shore, Katie Dignam and my daughter Emily), volunteered for two weeks at Baby Blessings Home in Nairobi, Kenya. This experience left a lasting impact on all of us.  The children’s home is run by Irene, affectionately known as Mama Africa, and managed by the amazing Gladys and her team of wonderful, kind carers.  They all do an exceptional job loving and nurturing the children who live there, ranging in age from new-born up to 16 years of age.  At the time we visited there were 38 children.  They now cater for a total of 64 children!

In the summer of 2018, I returned to Baby Blessing with my other daughter, Meghan.  I feel so lucky to have been able to visit again and reconnect with the children there.  We were due to return to Kenya as a family for Christmas 2019, but due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to go. Given the current global pandemic, we most likely will not be able to travel there this year.

I have been in touch with Mama Africa to check in and see how the children are doing.  Baby Blessings rely heavily on financial donations from their Church and the local community who drop by with food and supplies.  Due to the current circumstances, donations have significantly reduced, as a result of Kenya’s lockdown.  They are experiencing a major shortage of baby formula, nappies and food in general.  There has also been a crisis in food supply this year due to the East Africa locust invasion.

I know that all of my family, friends and work colleagues have already generously contributed to this cause which is very close to my heart.  I also understand that there are so many other deserving causes in need of help in these uncertain times.  However, myself, Meghan and Emily would be extremely grateful if you would consider donating any small amount to Baby Blessings.

The children that we have been blessed to spend time with are wonderful, kind, affectionate and full of life.  They deserve any help that we can possibly provide them, even from a distance.
