Baby Amara and Kairi

On December 17th, Barbi had an emergency C-section at 28 weeks and gave birth to her and Spencer's beautiful identical twin baby girls, Amara Julie Mueller born at 6:37pm, 2lbs 8oz, and Kairi Rei Mueller born at 6:38pm, 2lbs 8oz. The twins are in the NICU at the Sutter Van Ness campus. They are being cared for around the clock by a skilled team of nurses and doctors. The twins are doing very well and are showing signs of being able to transfer soon to a NICU facility in Santa Rosa. However, they will not be ready for discharge until their 38th week. They will need to be in the hospital for at least ten weeks. It is critical for Spencer and Barbi to stay as close as possible to the hospital for the duration of their stay to provide breast milk, skin-to-skin time, love, and devotion. Outcomes for premature babies are greatly improved by having the parents be hands-on everyday.

 

Unfortunately, the hospital is not providing patient housing at this time due to COVID which resulted in the cancellation of pre-existing support programs. Therefore, Spencer and Barbi are seeking support with housing expenses. Barbi is still healing from the cesarean section and needs a quiet, comfortable, and furnished space with little to no stairs while she recovers. They are currently staying at a hotel three blocks away from the hospital.

 

We are asking for support on Barbi and Spencer's behalf. Not only with medical bills, but with finding and funding housing/accommodations, food, travel expenses, such as; bridge tolls, gas, parking (at the hospital and hotel). They are also still paying rent in Santa Rosa and are limited in their ability to work during this time.

 

The path of witnessing their twin's growing process is long and very emotional. They are so grateful and hopeful regardless of these challenges. We ask that if you are able to support their family financially at this time, please do so. This will lighten their load so they can focus on healing and taking care of their beautiful twin baby girls.
