Commemorating Juneteenth

June 19 is a holiday known as Juneteenth, and is recognized in 47 states and DC. It marks the official end of slavery in the US, when the last enslaved individuals were told they were free — nearly two years after the emancipation proclamation was signed.

The freedom that Juneteenth commemorates is cause for celebration, but it also reminds us of how equality can be delayed.

Our IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Awareness) council wants to recognize ongoing injustices in this country, incited by its long history of racism that has led to deadly outcomes that are finally being highlighted in the news. We believe as individuals in society, we can do better in supporting those still suffering at the hands of injustice. To recognize Juneteenth, we’d love your support as we collect & donate on behalf of Alibaba.com North America to the following organizations:

- Black Lives Matter Global Network
- NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund
- American Civil Liberties Union

We will be equally splitting the amount between the organizations, but you can indicate in your donation comment if you would rather your full donation go to one organization in particular.

Please feel free to share with friends and family.  For more information about additional organization to which you can donate, plus ways to learn more and take action, check out this document
