100 Miles for Conexión Migrante

EDIT: WE REACHED THE GOAL OF 1K! I’m keeping the fundraiser open until the end of February as I reach the 100 miles! Conexión Migrante is an information hub for Latino and Mexican migrants doing incredibly important work. Their journalism informs immigrants on legal decisions and support, connects people to help centers and even family reunification. Their free helpline, Centro de Atención al Migrante, informs and supports immigrants 365 days a year. In 8 years they have supported more than 100,000 people, but now they are at risk. The recent executive orders by President Trump have cost Conexión Migrante 20% of their funds for journalism and 50% of their funds for the helpline. I met the founder Patricia Mercado Sánchez and other Conexión Migrante folks at the 4th Latin American Conference for Diversity in Journalism/ VITAFEST when I was there as a student and I was blown away. CM's work is vital for our community, so I will be biking 100 miles in the month of February to raise funds and awareness for their work.

Conexion Migrante es una red de información para migrantes Latinos y Mexicanos que hace un trabajo importantísimo. El periodismo de Conexión informa a los migrantes en EUA respecto a decisiones legales, centros de apoyo, y reunificaciones familiares. Su línea de ayuda gratuita, el Centro de Atención al Migrante, informa, acompaña y apoya a migrantes los 365 días del año. En 8 años han atendido a más de 100,000 personas, pero hoy están en peligro. Las últimas órdenes ejecutivas del presidente Trump causaron la pérdida del 20% de sus fondos para periodismo y 50% para Centro de Atención al Migrante. Conocí a la fundadora Patricia Mercado Sánchez y a más personas de Conexión en la 4ta Conferencia Latinoamericana sobre Diversidad en el Periodismo/ VITAFEST cuando fui como estudiante, y me impactó muchísimo. El trabajo de CM es vital para nuestra comunidad, por eso voy a andar 100 millas (160km) en bicicleta en el mes de Febrero para reunir fondos para Conexión.
