Robert Stoots has proudly served the Cave Spring athletic community for nearly three decades. His dedication will eclipse 2000 games in 2022, a tenure that has witnessed several Cave Spring state championships and the play of incredible talent like JJ Redick, Tyler Lumsden, Josh Henderson, Crawford Enyart, and countless others.
Throughout his tenure behind the camera, Cave Spring’s beloved Stoots has spent over 44,800 hours capturing the action of Cave Spring Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, and Lacrosse. That’s the equivalent of a full-time job for nine months of every year, dating back to the fall of 1993.
Stoots is such a fixture of Cave Spring athletics that many in the community assume he is a paid member of the athletic staff. This is not the case.
Though he has been graciously compensated some over the years for his service to Cave Spring athletics, the rest of his dedication to Cave Spring has been strictly on a volunteer basis. Stoots regularly dedicates as much as six hours including up to an hour of travel each way to make sure that Cave Springs athletes have the film they need to prepare for their next game.
It’s also worth noting that filming high-caliber high school athletics requires high-end equipment, a cost that Stoots has always fronted himself. In fact, when you factor in his equipment and travel, his cost well exceeds what he has received over the years, meaning much of his work is done out of his own pocket.
So, why does he do it? Simple - he loves his alma mater, he loves Cave Spring athletics, and he loves the Cave Spring community. So much so that Stoots has never and would never ask to be paid for his work. That’s exactly why we are starting this fundraiser in his name. We want to show Stoots the love and support that he has so freely and generously given to us, our kids, and our community.
