The evening of 1st November we came across a gentleman and his dog sat in gardens of Rothwell Park. It was dark and cold and fireworks were going off. Concerned for this guy my husband and I stopped to speak to this man, his name is Craig. We soon realised Craig was having a really bad time. He was sat on a sheet with his dog all wrapped up to keep her warm, whilst he only had a jacket to keep the cold out. Turns out the sheet he was sat on was a tent he could not build because it was so dark. We helped this man out with his tent and asked if we could help any further. This man, Craig was so overwhelmed that someone had stopped to check on him. He really is a genuinely nice guy, down on his luck. He didn't ask for anything else.
After posting about Craig on social media, lots of our community came together to go out of their way to check on Craig, after meeting him everyone wanted to offer more help. He was put up in a hotel for a few nights, and put in contact with a support worker. Unfortunately we were then put back into lockdown and the hotel closed. As Craig is so devoted to his dog and cannot bare to let her go, it has been difficult to find accomodation for them both. Craig's tent has now succumbed to the weather.
It would be such a fantastic thing to do if we can show Craig we're all still thinking of him. There is a small caravan for sale locally and it would be brilliant to be able to raise the money to give Craig somewhere a little warmer and drier whilst he gets himself sorted. If you could help out a little to help us do this for Craig. He such a nice guy it's heartbreaking to know he's out there.
