In about two weeks, my family will be evicted from our home of over twelve years, and it’s terrifying me.

My mom is a single parent with two kids and has been faltering financially while consistently struggling to keep up with bills, as the prices for necessities have increased substantially within the last five years alone. Having a job has been difficult for her while battling health issues, both mental and physical. She is a great mom and deserves the world, every bit of who I am is thanks to her.

I have watched my mom stress all my life. And through each problem that caused her that stress, she always found a way back on her feet. Whether the problem at hand was robbery, lack of food, clothing, or keeping the lights on, she always made something work and we would continue on. But this year was the first year I saw the stress getting to be too much. In December of 2024, we had a talk where she cried in my arms and told me, “I am tired of just surviving, I want to live.” While that broke my heart, what hurt me even more was the weight it held. It was honest, we just want to live.

Just like most other families, we love and cherish our home, and we are doing everything in our power to stay. If you care about me, and my family’s well-being at all, please take action.
