This is my sister Lindsay and she is my hero…

She’s younger than me but I’m the one who looks up to her. She’s been a single mother for over 9 years due to an unforeseen tragedy. Even though at times it was rough she’s never asked for anything and made it happen on her own almost always. She goes to work everyday in construction and can outwork most of her coworkers. Believe it or not her dream is to operate heavy machinery. Unfortunately you have to get a CDL which requires almost perfect vision.

She’s had a longstanding history of poor vision in the right eye due to herpesviral infection suffered at age 4 when her cornea got scratched. She has been maintained on anti-inflammatory eye drops and antiviral pills to keep her condition under control over the last 7 years. Despite taking her medications, she has had several flare ups, but her vision has remained stable for the most part at counting fingers. She has a central scar on the right cornea and would benefit from a corneal transplant, but she is a poor candidate for a transplant due to absent sensation in the right eye from her original infection.

She is planning to undergo "neurotization" surgery on Jan. 9th to improve the sensation in the right eye. During this surgery, nerves from her forehead will be "re-routed" to her eye to try to improve the sensation in the eye. If the sensation in her eye improves after surgery, she may be a candidate for a corneal transplant in the future to improve her vision.

The first procedure of neurotization will leave her out of work for 2-3 weeks. Once it’s successful and she can undergo the transplant she will be out of work for a couple months. She was hesitant to go forward bc she can not afford to miss work.

The money donated, at minimum requested, will go towards her monthly bills of rent, car note and her sons needs.

Never did she envision her sight actually being restored until this new technique for the neurotization was mentioned by her eye doctor. With getting this procedure she will be able to pursue her dream job and be able to support her son until no longer needed! It will forever change her life and sight for the better!!
