Food Security Vehicle Needed
We are raising money to benefit Food Forward Oxford, a food security program run out of the Women’s Employment Resource Centre. This project is also funded by United Way.
Food Forward Oxford collects thousands of pounds of food each year from local food donors and distributes it to several community programs that feed those in need (Stich Supper Club, Cycles of Life, Rotary, The River, Operation Sharing, DASO/Ingamo Homes, etc). Much of the food is rescued and documented through Second Harvest. Last year alone 100,044 KG of greenhouse gases were diverted from landfills. These states are only a portion of what is obtained. The program supports those in need while also saving the environment.
The needs of our community neighbors have skyrocketed in the past couple of years with some food access providers seeing an increased need of almost 200%.
Sadly, the daily travel throughout the county has taken a toll on our Program Coordinator’s car and led to a total breakdown. Her vehicle is crucial to the success of the program. Without wheels, the food cannot be rescued or get to those who need it. We are actively exploring opportunities to keep her transportation intact, including interim rental cars, repairs and or replacement (the car parts shortage is real!)
Please consider helping us raise funds to keep this initiative rolling and families fed! Thank you for your generosity.
