My name is Raymond LaGala Jr. I'm the oldest of seven children. My Dad and Mom were high school sweethearts. My Mom did not live in my Dads school district. Her district did not have a high school built yet so she had to go to Longwood High School where they eventually met. She was a cheerleader and he was a football player. They fell in love and got married. After graduating high school both of my parents went into hairdressing as their professions. My Dad eventually bought into a shop in Port Jefferson. Later on he bought out his partner and was the sole owner of Hair Port where he worked for 50 years. The building HairPort is located in is 223 Main St. Port Jefferson NY. If you were looking for my Dad you could find him at three different places, home, Hair Port or church. He loved his job and he would say that when you do what you love for a living you never work a day in your life. He fell on some hard times as many small business have. He is the hardest working man I know hands down. He never complained about anything no matter what. He was happy and positive all the time. My dad always worried about other people, he was the last thing on his mind. About two years ago he was bitten by a tick and diagnosed with lymes disease but we knew it was something more. He developed a drop foot and had a hard time walking. We took him to several doctors over the last two years and they couldn't find anything . He went from a cane to a walker in a short time making everyday tasks difficult. They could not find anything wrong with him until a week ago. My Dad was diagnosed with A.L.S. He has been working for two years with A.L.S. He didn't have a retirement fund and he didn't have a job with a pension just trying to help mom. He passed away 09/17/24 at 6:58 pm. I'm asking for everyone that knows him to pitch in and help the man who helped everyone.
