Let’s Help Romy to find justice for her and her daughter

Hello, my name is Valeria. I am raising funds for my best friend, Romy, who hasn't seen her daughter in over a year. Her little girl left Peru in December 2022 with a temporary travel permit granted to her father to take her to spend Christmas and school holidays in France, with her paternal family.

To this day her daughter has not returned. In the midst of this struggle, Romy learned that the father-ex/husband opened a process against her in France in 2021, requesting the withdrawal of parental rights. This fact makes it very clear that he hid his intentions to take her away from him before the trip, to which she agreed without imagining that this could happen. During 2023, Romy looked for different ways to get her little girl back. She has knocked on the doors of international organizations, the Ministry of Women, the Peruvian consulate, and feminist groups, both in Europe and Latin America. But unfortunately the only way to achieve justice is by turning to private lawyers in France, specialists in the subject. To recover parental authority in said country, she must appeal the process initiated by the father in 2021 and also appeal the sentence where they deny the return of their daughter to her country of origin.

In addition to the emotional pain, the expenses that Romy is assuming in France - in euros, logically - have overwhelmed her. The deadline to appeal is in less than 15 days, and if she does not do so she could also lose her parental rights in Peru.

The costs of lawyers, official translators, legalizations, certified copies, are endless, without taking into account the daily expenses of housing and other needs. In addition to loneliness, she doesn't even have her family and friends around to support her. Romy can no longer continue alone and needs our support for the countless expenses she is trying to manage.

She needs a lot of help from everyone who can give it. She needs to hire lawyers specializing in international abduction and it is very expensive.

Romy has not seen her little girl for over 16 months, the right they have to see each other, care for each other and love each other has been taken away from them. This Sunday, May 12, will be Mother's Day: the second mother's day she spends away from her daughter. But I have faith that - with the help of all of you - it will be the last, and the next one they will be together.
