Please help the Guzman family rent a new apartment after losing their home in a housefire. Monday afternoon, more than 20 people lost their homes on 60th road in Maspeth, Queens. NYC Migrant Solidarity is working with one of the families, the Guzman family, to help them raise money so they can pay for first months rent, a security deposit, and last months rent + plus any other funds the family needs to rebuild a stable housing situation. The Guzman family is one mother, her two kids (just 5 & 9 years old) along with her brother (22) as well as one elder. Originally hailing from Ecuador, she supports her family through street vending jewelry.

Emergencies such as these, coupled with the systemic targeting of women, of working class, of indigenous & immigrant families to be displaced in the interest of furthering gentrification can often push people out of this city or into the violent cycle of homelessness- but we are resilient, and are going to struggle together so that at least one more family gets to stay in their city, to keep living and thriving with their community.

Our other call to action is navigating a donation drop off point with a local business or other space for the Guzman family and other families effected- the families lost pretty much everything in the fire, and we’d like to emphasize that the children need new schools supplies- backpacks, school supplies, imagine what items you would need and feel comforted in this situation. Ayude a la familia Guzmán a alquilar un apartamento nuevo después de haber sido desplazada por un incendio. El lunes por la tarde, más de 20 personas perdieron sus hogares en la calle 60 en Maspeth, Queens. NYC Migrant Solidarity está trabajando con una de las familias, la familia Guzmán, para ayudarla a recaudar fondos para poder pagar el primer mes de alquiler, un depósito de garantía y el alquiler del último mes, además de cualquier otro fondo que la familia necesite para reconstruir una situación de vivienda estable. La familia Guzmán está formada por una madre, sus dos hijos (de solo 5 y 9 años) junto con su hermano (22) y un anciano. Originaria de Ecuador, mantiene a su familia vendiendo joyas ambulante.

Emergencias como estas, junto con los ataques sistémicos contra las mujeres, las familias de la clase trabajadora, las familias indígenas e inmigrantes para desplazarlas con el fin de fomentar la gentrificación, a menudo pueden expulsar a las personas de esta ciudad o caer en el violento ciclo de la falta de vivienda, pero somos resilientes y lucharemos juntos para que al menos una familia más pueda permanecer en su ciudad y seguir viviendo y prosperando con su comunidad.

Nuestro otro llamado a la acción es encontrar un punto de entrega de donaciones en una empresa local u otro espacio para la familia Guzmán y otras familias afectadas. Las familias lo perdieron prácticamente todo en el incendio, y nos gustaría hacer hincapié en que los niños necesitan material escolar nuevo: mochilas, útiles escolares, imagine qué artículos necesitarían y se sentirían reconfortados en esta situación.
