Mi nombre es Gloria. Algunos ya sabéis que estuve hace un par de años en Tailandia dando clases de inglés. Estuve en Saraburi, una ciudad 100 km al norte de Bangkok. Durante el mes que estuve allí, estuve viviendo con una mujer tailandesa, Wawa, que se convirtió en mi segunda madre. Ella es profesora en el pequeño colegio donde yo daba clase, Wat Pasak School.
Hace un par de días hablé con ella y me contó que ahora es directora, pero que está pensando irse del colegio porque está frustrada. Ya no reciben dinero del estado, porque es un cole muy pequeño. Tienen unos 40 alumnos, pero sus clases van desde infantil a lo equivalente a 6º de Primaria.
Wawa, mi madre tailandesa, no se quejó, simplemente me contó que va a tener que despedir a una profesora, Teacher Mai, porque solo le queda dinero para pagarle durante tres meses. En ese momento la que entró en pánico fui yo. Se necesitan unos 4450€ para pagar el sueldo de todo un año de esa profesora. Sí, esa cantidad de dinero es el sueldo de todo un año. Y como es un colegio tan pequeño, el gobierno ha decidido no pagarles.
Me duele pensar que puedan cerrar ese colegio. Los niños que van allí viven en los alrededores del mismo. Viven en casas que, para nosotros, serían consideradas chabolas. Estoy casi segura que si cierran ese colegio, más de uno dejará los estudios. Y esos niños no tienen la culpa.
Cuando estuve allí, pude conocer a fondo a los niños, darme cuenta de que el niño “malo” necesitaba solo atención, ya que a sus 8 años se tenía que hacer cargo de sus dos hermanos pequeños, porque su madre les había abandonado y su padre estaba en la cárcel. Los tres niños vivían con su abuela y se llevaban todos los días una bolsa con comida que sobraba para tener algo que comer el resto del día.
Este es solo un caso concreto y así, muchos más. Llegó un momento en el que preferí no saber las historias personales de cada uno y simplemente dar lo mejor de mí para que, en el tiempo que estaba allí, pudiera ayudarles en lo que fuera.
Y lo peor (o mejor) de todo es que no se quejan. Que esa es su vida y nunca verás una cara triste, un acto egoísta o a alguien que se queje porque lleva los calcetines rotos y son los únicos que tiene.
Entonces, con 5000€ me gustaría pagarle el sueldo a esa profesora (4450€) y que el resto lo utilizaran para comprar material escolar, arreglar algo en el colegio o comprarle el uniforme a aquellos que no puedan permitírselo ni en una década.
Sé que es mucho dinero lo que me gustaría que lo consiguiéramos. Si lo conseguimos, sería genial y si no, ya estaríamos haciendo una aportación, por pequeña que fuera, para solucionar parte del problema. Si 5000 personas pusiéramos 1€, ya tendríamos el dinero. Viéndolo así no supone tanto, ¿verdad?
Por mi parte, pienso contribuir dando clases de yoga en las que los asistentes me paguen lo que quieran. Todo ese dinero irá íntegro para este proyecto.
¡Ah! Y no penséis que luego el dinero se esfumará. Pienso ir yo misma a Saraburi a entregarlo. Cuando lo haga, en un máximo de 6 meses, lo grabaré todo para que los que hayáis participado podáis ver dónde va destinado vuestro dinero.

Help not to close Wat Pasak school!
Hi everyone!
My name is Gloria. As many of you know, I’ve been in Thailand giving English classes a couple of years ago. I’ve been in Saraburi, a town located 100 km far from the north of Bangkok. The month I was there, I was living with a Thai woman called Wawa who become my second mom. She teaches in the school I taught English, Wat Pasak School.
A couple of days ago I spoke to her and she told me she’s the headteacher now, but she’s thinking about leaving the school because she is frustrated. The school doesn’t receive money from the state because it’s a really small place. They have around 40 students, but their levels go from kindergarten to 5th grade.
Wawa, my Thai mom, didn’t complain. She just told me she has to fire a teacher, Teacher Mai, because they’re running out of money and she has just the amount to pay her for three more months. At that moment, the one who freaked out was me. They need 4450€ to pay her salary for the whole year. Yes, this amount of money is the salary for the whole year. And as it is such a small school, the government has decided not to pay them anymore.
It hurts me thinking that they can close that school. The children who go there live in the surrounding area. They live in houses like shacks. If they close the school, I’m pretty sure that more than one student will quit their studies. And it’s not these kids' fault.
When I was there, I was able to get to know the children thoroughly. I realized that the “bad” child needed only attention, because at the age of 8 he had to take care of his two little siblings. Their mother left them to their fate and their father was in jail. The three children lived with their grandmother and they took a bag of food leftover every day to have something to eat for the rest of the day.
This is just a specific case and there are many more like it. There was a time when I preferred not to know each other's personal stories and I simply gave my best so that I could help them as much as I could during my stay.
And the worst (or best) of all is that they don't complain. Their situation is what it is. You will never see a sad face, a selfish act or someone who complains because he/she wears broken socks and it is the only pair he/she has.
So with 5000€ I would like to pay the teacher's salary (4450€) and the rest will be used to buy school supplies, to fix something at school or to buy uniforms for those who cannot afford it in a decade.
I know it's a lot of money. If I succeed and we reach the amount, it would be great and if not, we would be making a contribution anyway, no matter how small it is. If 5000 people could donate 1€, we would already have the money. If you look at it in this way, it's not that much, right?
As for me, I will contribute giving yoga classes in which the attendees pay me how much they want. All that money will go entirely for this project.
And hey! Do not think the money will end up vanishing. I intend to go to Saraburi myself to deliver it. When I go (in a maximum of 6 months) I will record everything so that those who have taken part can see where your contribution is allocated.
