My name is Ayoma and I have decided to fundraise for The DARA PROJECT

 What is The DARA Project?

The DARA Project is drug free Community Employment structured day programme for people in recovery from substance misuse.

‘We provide a range of supports to people who have become drug free. We empower each person to reach their full potential. We believe that recovery from addiction is possible for all who seek it. We aim to support, empower and equip each person to live a drug free life. We endeavour to help all our participants become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.’

Why am I fundraising for The DARA Project?

Addiction is a killer illness and one of the most misunderstood. In Ireland we are all touched by addiction, either directly or indirectly in some way or another. At Government level there is simply not enough funding made available nor is there the genuine commitment necessary to create a shift in attitude and make an impact on the illness as a whole. Addiction is unrelenting and it destroys lives, families and communities. However, despite these stark facts everyday across Ireland at a community level treatment centers, community outreach and day programmes such as The DARA Project continue to work tirelessly and with selfless commitment to help those that do make it to and through treatment and get clean back into lives.

Seeing is believing!   Within my local community I regularly cross paths with participants who are either in The DARA Project or who have completed the programme.  They come through this programme and leave with fresh eyes, a lust for life, gratitude in their heart and have become engaged trustworthy members of society once again.

Like all community projects The DARA Project it is run on a shoestring! Therefore I have decided train for and run a mini marathon and fundraise for this project. Every little helps guys so please dig deep and support them in their great work.

My journey with running has been an enlightening journey in itself. I have been running 5k and 10K runs regularly since last year. I have already begun a 3-month challenge and am training for my first half – marathon, which will take place on 25th of July.

Given the Covid-19 Restrictions I will be doing this in isolation, but will track and trace both the training aspects and the run itself as much as I can through social media.

Thanks in advance for your support, please dig deep for The Dara Project - helping people recover from active addiction and get back into their lives and communities.

Yours in socially distanced hugs,

Ayoma xx
