Help Preserve the Home and Dignity of Ayesha Kazan
We are raising funds to support Ayesha Kazan, an 82-year-old transgender elder and a true Australian trailblazer.
Ayesha is one of the last original Les Girls, one of Australia’s first transgender women to undergo gender-affirming surgery in 1962, and a pioneer of the early Sydney Mardi Gras movement from 1968. She helped pave the way for today’s LGBTQIA+ community.
Despite her historic contributions, Ayesha is now facing an incredibly difficult situation. For many years she has not received proper daily care, despite having paid support services in place. As a result, her home has fallen into serious disrepair. She is also under threat of losing her housing and being separated from her beloved three dogs, which has caused her immense stress and fear.
A small group of volunteers, led by Samantha and her daughter Lulu, have stepped in to help. They have already removed a significant portion of the contents of Ayesha’s home and begun organising professional cleaning and painting. However, there is still a long way to go.

Many transgender women of Ayesha’s generation were disowned by their families and are ageing without support. While Ayesha has recently received public recognition for her life and legacy, it is heartbreaking that she is still struggling to have her most basic needs met.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will help protect Ayesha’s home, wellbeing, independence and prevent homelessness.

- Complete the safe removal of remaining items from the home
- Pay for professional cleaners and painters
- Help restore Ayesha’s home so she can remain there with dignity
- Relieve immediate stress while longer-term supports are put in place
